Waiting on Hurricane Milton
A time of uncertainty
It’s early Monday morning on the West Coast of Florida, and millions of people wait anxiously to hear the latest update on Hurricane Milton.
We know that it will be a powerful storm when it makes landfall. It is already a strong hurricane and won’t be here for two more days. When it arrives on our coast, it will be a major hurricane, resulting in widespread devastation once again.
We dealt with Hurricane Helene less than two weeks ago, which produced unprecedented storm surge and flooding. One friend lost everything she had, while another had four feet of water in her garage. Another friend lost most of her possessions and appliances. Sadly, there are thousands of similar stories.
Most upsetting to me was a woman who lived in my brother’s neighborhood who lost her life when water began to rise in her home, causing an electrical fire. Rescue attempts were made but unsuccessful because of the rapidly rising water. She was missing the next day, but her body would eventually be found covered in debris from her burnt home.
This hit me hard as this was also the neighborhood where my parents lived before passing away. I know many who live there. This could have happened to any one of them.
